Default Thermostat question

Noob here, so whats the difference between a 160 degree, 180 degree and a 195 degree thermostat, and where are they located in my engine? I saw someone say if you change it it helps engines that run hot. thanks

Difference is at what temp they open allowing coolant to flow through the radiator.

Stock is 195*

They are located in the housing where the upper radiator hose meets the block. You take out the bolts, remove the housing, replace the gasket and thermostat and put it back together.

...and then, you learn to NEVER over-torque the thermostat housing bolts ever again!

Excellent........with a new gasket and a thin film of rtv sealer on both sides of gasket, just past finger tight should be sufficient.
