Default Thermostat Orientation: Does it matter?

Just finished replacing the radiator, water pump, tstat, clutch fan, hoses, and timing belt in my 01 Cherokee. In looking up the right order to put things back in (took me 2 months off and on to finish the removal and replacement) I noticed one video mention the thermostat has an "up" arrow. I didn't notice one on my replacement, so my question is does it matter which way is up? lol

I have it in the right direction, meaning the correct side is in the block, just want to check before I put the fan shroud back on when I get home. Thanks!

If it has a notch or button, put that at 12 o'clock. Pellet towards engine.

thanks Firestorm500. So lets say it had a notch and I didn't have it at 12:00, would that be an issue? I guess I'm trying to avoid removing everything and finding out there is no notch

Just try it however u have it and see what it does. The stats with the jiggle valve only bleed when the motor is off anyway.

as soon as the engine is started coolant will flow through that little valve, having it up helps bleed air, thats why it's even there.

Negative.....when the motor starts, coolant flow pushes the valve closed and flow is stopped, the valve opens when the motor is off.

There is no air in the system after a few hot/cold cycles in a semi-closed system (after draining & refilling).

Likewise, there is no air in a closed system after you let it run for a while with the bottle cap off after draining & refilling.

There is no timing belt in the 4.0 engine. The only belt in the engine bay is the serpentine belt.
