Default thermostat housing on an 88'?

So the PO of my 88' cracked the bottom part of the thermostat off. Do o have to go to a JY to get another one and anyone know what it'll run me?

Also, my jeeps overheating and I that housing is the problem due to sucking in air instead of cycling water, but I noticed the reservoir drains and I don't see any leaks big enough to take that much water. Is the thermostat housing the most likely cause of the overheating?

Mine cracked and caused my temp to rise because of the loss of coolant. My guess is the crack is causing your high temps as well seeing as that's the only thing dumping out coolant. I replaced mine and got a new gasket, the old one had seen better days, for it for like $14. Easy fix.

Do yourself a big favor and replace your t-stat while you are in there. Also make sure to get an OEM t-stat from the dealer. You may pay a couple of dollar more but you would be glad that you did. BTW, You should have a 195deg in there.

x2 on the t-stat. You could do a coolant flush while your at it too. Cause you'll have to drain some coolant to get to the thermostat housing off.

My only concern is that I don't see anywhere dumping out loads of coolant, enough to empty the resevoir anyway?

It should run and not overheat without a t-stat in it at all though shouldn't it, since the t-stat is wide open at temp anyway?
