I recently replaced some leaking heater hoses and radiator hoses. unfortunately, the upper radiator hose is still leaking at the thermostat housing.
The metal housing was chewed up and has a small chunk missing
so it wont seal well (looks like PO was too rough removing the radiator hose ). my question is can i replace just the housing or do i need to replace the thermostat as well?
what would be involved? unbolt and remove housing, remove old gasket clean surface, new gasket and bolt on new housing? am I missing anything?

I'd say it depends on how old the current one is. If you've already replaced it recently, don't waste your time. The gasket may be fine as well.

thanks for the info guys
I got a little ahead of my self thinking it needed to be replaced.
think it just needed to be tightened
I took the hose off, cleaned the surface, put it back on and tightened it. no more leaky. if it leaks again I will replace the tstat and housing.
