Default thermostat gasket question

I have a Fel-pro thermostat gasket. Do I need to use a sealant with the gasket? thanks

Depends on how pitted the mating surfaces are. I would use RTV just because I don't like leaks. I suggest the black RTV. The orange/red/blue are ugly.

For the sake of not having to do it twice, just put a thin layer of black rtv on both sides. Like diskman kind of mentioned, it'll alleviate any small defects that may affect the seal.
