my 99 xj has a 2 inch body lift. why was i "told" that this does not exist... im wondering if it was some form of sarcasm that contained an answer like "body lift is retarded" or "body lift wont work for what your doing"
what is he doing, you ask? well, im trying to see if 31x1050r15's will fit with out actual lift or triming. can i get a straigh answer? and thanks to thoes who chose to answer in a fashion that wont raise my blod preasure!
oh yea, sorry for another tread about lift, but i was sick of only one or two ppl looking at it...

I don't think it was sarcasm.
These Cherokees don't have a traditional frame, they are unibody. So the frame and body are not seperate, and you can't seperate them.
So for what you are thinking you can't accomplish getting any lift by putting spacers between the frame and body, its not possible.
You would have to get different leaf springs for your rear, or shakles. You would also have to get spacers for your coil springs for your front.
Hope this helps clearify things!

huh... ill be running the stock 15x7's for now, and there is a tiny bit of scrub on the drivers side when fully turned left. but oh well... jeep, not jag!
you'll rub the control arms with the stock wheels. I have seen people fit 30s on no lift but probably rub pretty often. So i would think 31s will be fine with a budget boost. But you just wont want to turn full lock to lock as you will rub those arms for sure

have 3.5" on mine and fit 31's perfectly until i start to flex... then i rub on the inside of the wheel well.

looks like i better put the 31's on hold and work on that lift first... any good suggestions for a 3-3.5" lift? ive looked on rustys offroad and rough country a little, but any suggestions would be cool!
31's will fit with a 2" BB lift and on your stock 15x7 rims. However, they will rub on the LCA's at full lock and any time you flex the front axle. A 3" lift will clear your 31's, but you'll still have the same issue with rubbing at full lock. There are two ways to fix this:
1) 1.25" wheel spacers. This is, in all honesty, a bandaid fix and even though it works, I would opt for #2 if possible. I currently have 1.25" spacers, but am saving up for a set of backspaced rims so I can lose the spacers.
2) Properly backspaced rims. You'll want to find a rim that has at least 3.75" backspacing. Lug pattern 5x4.5, and a 15x8 size. You could go with a wider rim, but then your tire sidewall doesn't protect the edge of the rim as much.
As for rubbing while flexing, you may still get some rubbing on the front bumper caps. Easiest fix is to remove them but it looks like crap IMO. Do a nice trim job on them, and you'll keep a "finished" look to your XJ and not have to worry about rubbing anymore.
If you're looking at a 3" lift, Rough Country (RC), Rusty's, and Rubicon Express (RE) are going to be the top three recommended. RC is going to be your cheapest kit. In my experience they ride a little rougher than Rusty's, but performance and quality are about the same between the two. Rusty's is going to be your "middle ground" for price. I paid the extra $$ on Rusty's 3" for the better ride and have been extremely pleased with how it's performed on and off the road. RE is going to be the most expensive of the three. Some swear by it, but from what I've seen, it's no different than the other two except in price. It's the most established of the three, so you're pretty much buying the name IMO.
Hope this helps.

I put a 3.5" Rubicon express on my 2000 with 31x10.50 BFG's. IMO looks great and works even better then i expected! very little trimming. only about half inch of plastic on passenger side.

BDS suspension is one that is often suggested. They are a great option for a lower budget lift, and its a high quality kit.
I run BDS.
