I own a 96 Xj and ever since I got it the temp gauge hasn’t worked. The old sending unit was broke off when I got it so it was one of the first things I replaced, and it didn’t fix it. I could just tie in an aftermarket gauge In and be done with it but i prefer to keep the factory gauges. Any body have an idea or a wiring diagram I could check. All the other gauges work fine it only the temp gauge. Thanks

If it's a real gauge and not powered by the PCM like the later ones, pull it out of the cluster and check the tightness of the resistor on the back of it. By "real" I mean powered by a temp sensor near the back of the head. I think those are basically GM gauges that just slip into clips in the cluster. Check the fit and cleanliness of those clips as well.

Depending exactly when your 96 was built...the sensor at the back of the head drove the temp gauge on early 96.... late 96 had the gauge driven off the sensor in the thermostat housing thru the pcm
