Default Temperature gauge

My temp gauge does not work. I have a 01 so I really want a gauge so I can watch the temperature closely. Any cheap aftermarket gauges that wont break the bank or where should I look to fix mine. The sensor on the thermostat is really lose if that helps Im not sure if that sends the temp or not. Thanks in advance.

The temperature gauge uses a sensor near the back of the engine next to the valve cover on the driver's side. The sensor on the thermostat housing does not affect the gauge on your cluster. I would test the sensor before giving up on the gauge. Here's a good youtube video for testing resistance of a temp sensor:

Later models only have one sensor I believe. If the sensor is broken it is likely your problem.

Ohm it, this is very important, unplug the component and then turn the volt meter to ohms and check it that way

This should help you use your ohm meter if you have never checked for resistance with http://www.wellsve.com/ds_ohm.html
