Previous owner wired the e-fan to a toggle switch on mine. It's a two toggle, though only one actually control anything. I guess it works, though I don't notice a difference.

How hard is it to replace the clutch fan? Have to remove some of the front clip?

If you have relatively slender arms and don't mind being poked by the sharp corners of the fan its really not bad at all. I forget what size the bolts are they're either 10mm or 13mm. you will need 2 wrenches because its a nut and bolt setup and a speedwrench (ratcheting wrench) will make things much less tedious. There are only 4 bolts, I start with the ones I can get to on top first (just break them loose for now) then bump the motor over a hair using the starter to get to the other ones.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that you DO NOT need to remove any of the front clip, however removing the fan shroud will help a great deal.

Loosen the shroud then loosen the clutch from the pulley. Lift up/out both the shroud and fan/clutch assembly. Remove fan from old clutch and mount to new clutch. Place fan/clutch assembly inside shroud and lower all 3 into place. Mount clutch to pulley then mount shroud to rad support. 3 hands will help.....1 holding the shroud and 2 mounting the clutch to the pulley but 2 hands can do it.

Electric fans kick on at around 215 -218 degree's.Up to the year 1999 they also come on with the a/c, 2000-01 xj's don't come on with the a/c only the temp.

Could it be the electric cooling fan which is supposed to turn on at 190? I just started having this exact same problem last week and noticed that even at 210, my fan never turns on
No. The article is wrong on two accounts for some reason.

Alright awesome. I'll be replacing clutch fan. You think it's possible that when I did the t stat that either I messed something up or miss functioned. Or the housing and sensor is bad? Every sense I replaced t stat near winter y temps been weird. Like before it went bad it would warm up fine and stay warm and the new one dose not want to warm up and I had to make guard to keep air going into grill. Now this summer is first summer, well spring sense I have winch bumper and 33s with this work done. Also my fan is hard to turn by hand and try to spin it will spin like 3/4 cycle.

My old fan clutch didn't show typical symptoms of being bad like yours isn't but after replacement I run cooler and stay cooler at stops.
