So I just finished changing the rad and the thermostat on my 92 because half the rad was gone before. When idoling in the driveway the temp gauge reads hot ad can be but the engine seems to be at a normal temp. Anyway to restart the gauge or find out how to get it working right?

Don't guess at this. An overheat can damage your engine.
Job #1. Verify that the connector for the temp sensor that feeds your coolant temp gauge on the dash is firmly in place.
If in doubt, get an infrared point and shoot thermometer (widely available and inexpensive) and point it directly at the thermostat housing.
Then you'l know for sure. Doesn't happen often, but if a thermostat stuck closed right out of the box, it could cause a true overheat.
And you NEVER want an overheat!
