Default Temp gage not working

I own a '96 XJ 4wd 4.0 HO. Anyways my instrument cluster is working fine except for the temperature gage. Before I try to pull it and see if there is a wire loose or something, I was going to see of anyone could fill me in on how it hooks up. Thanks in advanced!

There is a sending unit on your thermostat housing you could take a look at that. On my motor I got one on my cylinder head and one more on the drivers side of my block. I have the renix motor so I know with the HO's there is a diffrence. Either the one on the side of the block got relocated to the thermo housing or the one on the back drivers side of the head.

Yea my temp sending unit is on the thermostat housing. I just had the sensor replaced. Does that 3 wire connector go from the housing on the motor to the brain then brain to the gage?

My 4.0 HO has the TSU on towards the back of the engine on the valve cover on the right side (Facing the engine from the front), it's kinda hidden behind all the wires. I just resolved the same issue, sure enough the clip on it broke and the wire came out. If it was your front sensor, i beleive the aux fan would be running nonstop.

Ok when you check in the morning look at the back right side of the head and look for this. Also check the wiring make sure there isnt any issue like the guy above me said.

I think so, There seems to be several different ways it's been mounted. But i remember with mine it only had 1 wire going to it. So yeah make sure the wire is intact and replace the thing if the wire is fine.

Is it the sensor that's rigged to the head with a hose clamp? I hope not. Or is it the sensor on the intake in the second pic? Or none of the above?

It should actualy screw into the block itself. I tried to take a pic of mine, but its dark out and the flash in my cellphone is a total POS. IT flashes AFTER it takes the img. But it's mounted about where it is in cmartin2112's pic, but has a clip like yours. Did you just get this jeep?

Well I got the manifold in the way so I guess I'll have to crawl under in the morning and try and figure it out. I just want it fixed and working right. If you can get a pic in the morning I'd really appreciate it.
