Every time I have difficulties with my Jeep's parts because I live far away from the capital, Muscat and there is no Jeep Dealer in my town. I always travel for 300 km. to get parts for my Jeep!!! Now I have some ques. to be answered, please….

1. Is it important to add lubricant additive to the differential oil for my 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport??

2. I always get confused when I need to change the Transs. Oil, what type shall I use if Dexron or Mopar are not available?

3. Is it important to replace the Transs. Filter every time I change the oil?

4. When shall I change the transs and diff oil? (time? Kms?)?

5. How do I know if the transs and diff oils need to be change? (colour? Smell? Viscosity?)

6. I'll give you my Jeep's VIN, what info. Can you find for me? (if possible!!).

Hi Arab, how are you doing?
If you have a limited slip diff you need the additive or the specific oil, any oil that says LSD on it is ok.
For the tranny, every Dexron II or better (dexron III) is ok.
You don't need to replace the filter every time.
I'd change the fluid every 12000 miles since you live in a sandy place.
The tranny fluid must be changed when it is severely discoloured (not red anymore), brownish or smells burnt.
I can't help with the VIN, sorry.
Anyway since you live far from the dealer, i suggest you buy your stuff on e-bay and have it shipped home. It is easier and cheaper.

What year, model is your cherokee? There is usually a tag bolted on the diff cover that says lim.slip diff.

It's 2001 - and there is no tag

Then you most probably don't have a limited slip diff.
Go with castrol hypoy c 80w 90.

what about 75w90 or 75w140 for Differentials?

Unless you tow a trailer stick to the OEM recommendations.

mmmm. I'm asking .... because my friend has a Jeep and he is doing that all the time ... and all the mechanics here say that .... and there is noise from the diff
