Default tcase swap info

I've been searching for info on t-case swaps, but the search results have come up patchy at best. I have a '89, 4.0, renix, aw4, np242 (unsure of the spline counts). Just a few questions I need answered...

1st- what years np242 came with what spline counts?

2nd- are there any other options or are there better cases that might take a little modding, but better all around? Year, make, model?

Thanks a ton

PS I did read threw all the treads that came up in various key word searches!

Pretty sure a np231 will work from ur same year range. Will bolt right in with no mods, but ur light won't work, you could do the wiring to make it work but I didn't think it was worth it when I did it.

Also you might have driveshaft issues being too long or too short, but u might not depending on ur rear axle. If u have a 8.25 then it'll be too short and you'll need to get one from a d35

Thanks for your input, but isnt the NP242 the better case vs the NP231? I know most find the part time nice, but I never use it, so out of the NP231 & NP242 which is stronger???

If anyone has input on spline counts it would help a ton to know what years to look for!
