Last option would be to swap the input gear.. feel comfortable totally tearing down a transfer and reassembling it?

the spline count is the spline count of the input shaft correct? this has been confusing me for a while. I have a 99 auto with an np231 which i gather is a 23 spline, I can get a great deal on an np231 from an 87 manal with a tom woods sye kit. I would assume the 87 being older than 91 has a 21 spline shaft? but would it be different cause its manual?

I know the sye replaced the output shaft, and im not affraid of tear'n into it, so could I gank the aftermarket output shaft / sye out of the 87 and slap it in my 99 case? Or do i just sit back and watch the case go to someone else... or put my 23 spline input gear into that case... I just need to know if i can peice one together.

AFAIK,
as long as it has teh AX-15 manual it will have a 23 spline shaft. If it is the AW4 or anything other than the AX-15 in the 87 than it is most likely a 21.
