Default TC Linkage pivot bar popping out...

I need a little help trying to Identify a problem. I searched but i can't find this specific problem.

The rod that my shift linkage pivots on keeps popping out on the TC side. I'm trying to figure out weather the bracket on the frame/body side is bent or whether something is lose, or even if I'm missing a piece.

I'm hoping someone can post a really good close up pic of the shift linkage so i can compare it to mine and see if I can find the problem.

This started when the bolts holding the cross member broke/stripped on the passenger side, dropping my tc and the linkage popped out the first time.

Thanks for the help.

I would have to look, that was more of a guess, on most linkage there are clips or gussets that are held in place by pressure, you may be missing one of the two

on the pic you posted, that rubber piece on the inside of the bracket is what holds the linkage in place, you can also use a c-clip to hold it in as well. Sorry I dont have any pictures but look at the picture and you can see it

So here is a pic of my shift linkage.

You can see the part that is popped out.

Is there supposed to be a a cap, c-clip, or something holding it on the other side?

I will have to go out and look at the jeep tomorrow afternoon for that one, it looks like it has a lip for something to hold it in place

Ok, so I checked my friends XJ to see how his was set up.

What I found is a little piece of rubber that sat in inside of the hole on the trany. I didn't need a new one the old on was mostly there. Ended up going looking for the piece at a local transmission shop as the auto parts store doesn't carry them.

Couldn't get the new one in because the old one was most still in there.

As it turns out I just wasn't hitting the linkage hard enough to reset it in the rubber.

Short version, its all fixed now!
