so yea, 99 xj sport, grinding in 4wd, still havent checked TC fluid, i think there is poss. a bad u joint, but i want to start w/ what i assume is the easiest: the TC linkage. i hear that these tend to loosen up and cause similar symptoms, so how do i adjust it? how much do i adjust it? tighter, right? THANKS, YOU GUYS!!!

 

if its like my 89 move the shifter lever forward noting which way the tc arm moves loosen the bolt move both the lever and linkagearm the way they were noted going and tighten the nut

 

If it's like mine, your adjuster is probably rusted solid. I have a 99 sport, and just did my tc chain. He's right though, later model xj's are the same. Good luck!
