Default ½ tank and the engine dies..

Hi everybody.

I have recently become an owner of cherokee sport 4.0, 88/89
Have a problem.
When the fuel in the tank is lower than half, the engine suddenly dies, like there would be no gas anymore. It's enough I put some 3 gallons and the engine runs like nothing happened.

Any suggestions of what it may be? Thx

The fuel pump might have been installed incorrectly, or the sending unit is not reading correctly.

Or the rubber hose from the pump to the mounting flange, inside the tank, is collapsed/split/rotten.

I had a similar problem on my 88 and it was the ground wire from the pump to the mounting flange had a loose connector. When it was bathed in gas, it was conductive.....
