I want to take out and swap my seats, is it easy to take out the seats or is it a pain? My xj has electric seats btw if that matters.

 

it can be a pain to take them out. i took mine out a while back. and the only problem i had was that acouple of the bolts snapped off. so had to drill them out and put new bolts in them. just becarefull if they dont budge most likely your gonna brake the bolt. good luck!

 

Mine were effortless when I pulled them to re-install my carpet. Four bolts hold the frame, four more hold the seat to the frame. PB Blaster if you're worried about rust but mine came out easily. If your XJ is from Montana, I'd be surprised if you had major corrosion to deal with.

BTW, I learned a neat trick from an auto detailer recently. If your carpets are stained and gross even after scrubbing them down, spray paint them with ordinary spray bomb paint the color you want. After they dry thoroughly, take a brush and scrub/scruff the carpet to break the fibers apart. The guy told me it works perffect and you can't tell - makes them look new. I've never tried it but plan to on my floormats just to see if it works.

 

When I switched out my front seats, I just pulled the seats out, rail and all. That made it very easy to get to the bolts that hold the seat to the rail. Then I swapped the "new" seats (I got them from a '94 Grand Cherokee) onto my XJ rails, and reinstalled. Very easy to do, just takes a little time.

 

 

That guys not a good detailer then. I detail for a living myself and that will never looks "perfect". It will look better than a stain for sure but far from perfect. They make actual carpet dye that is a far better option.

As for the seats, they are just 4 bolts and a harness to disconnect. Real simple

 

Some of the bolts on the seats stick out under the jeep. Might help to put some pb blaster on from the bottom or wire brush the corrosion off of it before you start pulling bolts.
