What is the best way to remove and replace the glass in the tailgate? I just bought a new gate for my jeep and the rear defrost is damaged and is not tinted. I want to swap it for my glass which has defrost and tint.

Start in a lower corner inside working the gasket lip over the hatch at bottom.. then work your way up the sides. Have someone on the other side of the glass to assist.

Ha Ha I have seen that done on a camper top for a pickup truck. Stuck a folding chair through it.
No...unless the PO did something they should not be glued in. The only way I know this is because someone busted out my rear window last November so I took a big pipe wrench and busted out the rest myself pulled the gasket off and it's been that way ever since. lol.

its really simple. i just replaced mine and it took all of 15 minutes.first i removed the old seal and glass. then i took some soap and water in a spray bottle and sprayed the inside of the seal where it sits on the gate. then i wrapped a piece of twine around the seal in the channel that sits on the gate. set the bottom of the window on the gate, and have someone stand outside and apply a little bit of pressure. get inside and pull the twine which in turn pulls the lip of the seal onto the gate. finish pulling the twine/seal onto the gate and voila! youre done

on the 97+ tail gates it is glued in..... TRUST ME i just knocked one out in the junk yard and i have an '01 glass that needs to go in the new hatch.
so.... i am thinking a piano or guitar wire should be placed thru the glass then "saw" thru the glue to release the glass, clean the glass up and the new matting surface on the hatch then reglue it back on. does that sound about right??
btw we cleaned up most of the hatch mounting surface, just need to get the good glass out of the old wrecked hatch
