Hello, my name is Joshua, I just bought my self a jeep Cherokee, 1992, sport, 2 door. form a guy on craigslist.
It has a few problems that i'm working on fixing.
One of them is that the tachometer and the fuel gauges on the instrument cluster do not work. (they are the gauges, not the idiot lights)
I tried using another instrument that i got out of another 1992 cherokee, but that was not the problem.
So what i'm wondering, is if you guys think that there could be a short some where, a bad ground connection, or do you think it is a sensor that need to be replaced.
thanks for any help,
Josh

Josh it may be a fuse. I am not as familar with the wiring diagram on a 92 as I am on other years, but check all the fuses first.

Oh sorry, I forgot to say that was the first thing I did, I was able to find a fuse box wiring diagram on autozone's website, and all the fuses are there and good. I check the ones under the hood and the ones under the steering column.
thanks for the quick reply

Wasn't very quick of a reply but there is one more thing to check. The passenger side fender well has a power distribution center. Coming from that are a couple of fusible links. They look like a wire with a fat spot in them . Check continuity on those as one of them may have fried and I think one feeds the tach it's signal.

I popped off the plastic liner in the wheel well on the passenger side, and it was empty, there were no wires, so I'm not sure what to do now. hmmmm
