I can't speak from experience, because I've never had the pleasure of installing turbos, but you'd better get ready to dump a ton of money into your jeep. Based on what I've heard and seen from other people, your gonna have to go to a different EFI system, find a cam profile that works, weld new manifolds or severely modify the ones you have, figure out what turbine profile will give you a power curve you can work with, and then you have to find room for all this under the hood, and a bunch more stuff I can't think of, including plumbing oil lines to keep the turbo spinning. Turbos are great, but they are a serious undertaking. Then your likely going to have to upgrade or modify the rest of your drive train to deal with the new found power. Your money might be better spent on a stroker or swapping to a different motor. I'd be very wary of brand new $130 ebay turbos, thats just way too cheap for a turbo. Just my .02

i wouldnt waste my time or my money first problem is that turbo, i bet it wont last 500 miles, and thats after you get it installed. there are no-name brand parts you can get off ebay, but not a turbo, if you want one cheap, get one used. second for everything else youd have to do to the jeep, i wouldnt do it. if your looking for power, i think a supercharger is alot better for our trucks anyway cause turbos wont give you much on demand torque. its doable if you wanna be different, but thats the complete wrong way to go about it, its not gonna be cheap if you want it to work.

For the price of the turbo, one should be worried. The cost it will be to install it, too much for a cheap turbo. When the turbo bombs, the cost of an engine overhaul to fix what the turbo shelled pieces did when they went in the intake.

OK... Obviously none of you have ever turbocharged an engine before. First... A supercharger cost's about $3k plus install and tuning. A turbo will not lag that bad on a 4.0 L6 engine if you don't use a ridiculously large turbo. A T3 is probably perfect size for the 4 liter. It should spool rather early and give you enough power. All you need is 8 psi of boost which isn't **** on a stock engine. I have run 22 lbs of boost on stock bottom end Honda's which are aluminum blocks with open water jackets around the cylinders so I think your cast iron block and rotating assembly would be just fine! A lot of people will talk about how you will have lag and all this other crap with a turbo but guess what.... A supercharger builds boost as the pulley spins so it takes rpm's to build boost too!

The longer your turbo manifold is the less lag you will get usually. That's why you see drag cars with 8ft primary pipes for turbo manifolds. You want to keep velocity and you can't build velocity with a short manifold. Now that being said, your best bet is to just stick with your stock manifold and build an exhaust down pipe that runs to the passenger side of the engine compartment to a t3 flange. Don't go 3" from the manifold to the turbo either as I have seen some do. You have a jeep which in all actuality doesn't need 400+ Horsepower! If you can turbo charge it for $500 or so then do it! Some of those cheap ebay turbos actually hold up as I used to build turbo kits for bikes and have used several ebay turbos and never had a problem with them. Some cheap one will crap out sooner than a true Garrett but you'll get your money worth. The common problem is the thrust bearing goes bad. If you can gain and extra 80 horse and 60 ft-lbs of torque for $500 that isn't bad. Like I said 8 psi of boost is plenty! If you need quicker acceleration then goe higher gear ratio too!
