Default A couple problems

Problem 1: Tried to start my Jeep, tried to turn over 3 times, but made the dull slow grinding noise as if the battery was dead. Pulled the key out, put it back in and turned it, started right away. Possibly need a new battery? Why did it start after not starting the first time? Battery age is unknown, but it's a diehard.

Problem 2: I live in North-Central Wisconsin, it gets cold here and icy and snowy. Every time I get in after it sits for long enough to cool off completely, there's a strange metal on metal clunking sound. I'm thinking it could be ice between the bushings on the shock. Not sure though. Any ideas? I ran it around through some rough conditions (pot hole ridden road, bumpy/icy grass area, and curbs.

Also, I have a feeling my linkage to my four wheel drive is frozen since it won't fully disengage. During a sharp corner at 4 mph, it will lurch as if the front right wheel is digging and pulling.

Anyone with any ideas or solutions to these problems, feel free to reply.
