nothing wrong with 190. i would worry when it gets to 240.
could be the thermostat, fan clutch, or something with the radiator.
its also summer and if you were running the ac it will run warmer. could also be the electric fan.

sounds like they used a fail safe, which is a GOOD thing... yes, it needs to be running a little warmer, but I'd rather have them fail open than closed.

On another note, you senior members (rich) need to learn how to punctuate . Don't forget you were a newbie one time, and just because they are newbies to CF doesn't mean they are newbies to the off road/vehicle world.
Yeah i agree don't woory till it gets around 240 or so. I really start paying attention to mine when it gets around 220. I would love for mine to run at 190. But the question is is this the norm for your jeep

I just bought this as my first Jeep so I'm not sure if this is normal for her. I am not new to the off road world but am to XJs. I think I will replace the t-stat just to be safe. Do most of you use the 190 degree t-stats?
Thanks!!!
Thanks!!!

Most of us would kill for 190F coolant temp THIS TIME OF YEAR, doubt your gauge is reading accurate.....do you live at the South Pole? LOL Like rich said, a little more info would be helpful.

The gauge is correct. I have a code reader with live info that verified it. Like I said, I just bought the vehicle so I don't know if this is normal for it.

Ok, at those ambient temps I could see 190ish coolant temps with a 180F (or lower) t-stat or a stuck open 195F t-stat. The XJ has a really dinky radiator (<11" tall), so they can get rather toasty in summer time heat but yours seems to be doing quite well. I wouldn't touch anything unless the heater falls short this winter.
