Default T Case linkage adjustment

Hey guys I have a 97 with the 4.0, AW4, 231. When I pull my 4wd lever back to 4hi it just grinds. I have to put it between 2hi and 4 hi to make it work. And when using 4lo I have to slam it in and it still pops out when I put it in drive. My question is if it does just need adjusted, how do I do it? And if you think it's something else I'm open to suggestions.

Could be linkage.. I'd get a buddy to actuate lever while your underneath and see what it's doing. If something is slipping you should be able to see it.
