If I was to install a SYE, would I need to modify the drive shaft at all or should it just bolt in place(after removing the slip yoke from the drive shaft that is)?
Thanks! 94 Cherokee 4x4 5spd Man 4.0

You cant yourself modify the drive shaft, unless you can balance it and really weld ( and not the backyard welding) you either can have one made or do like the two above suggestions.gl

If you go with an SYE you absolutely have to change driveshafts. You will go from a single u joint upper joint to a double. You will have to do this because only the double cardan u joint will bolt to the yoke on the tcase end. The little straps will not fit without modification. And even if it did, you now have to have a slip joint in the drive shaft anyway.
You will also have to tip the pinion up to where the other joint has little or no angle between the shaft and pinion.

Is this due to the shorter drive shaft that will be put in, causing the angle to increase, thus tipping the pinion angle upward to compensate? or am I totally off on that...

how would you classify me. I know I can really weld, in my backyard, or front yard, or garage. (see links below)
I cut down a driveshaft and re welded it myself on my hot rod s10. 7000 rpm 130mph NO VIBES. shes smooth as a babys bottom, But ofcourse this wasnt my first time at the ball lol.
This being said, unless you know what you are doing and can really weld. Don't bother messing with driveshafts.
As for the SYE question. get a hack and tap, they are cheaper, and then a FRONT driveshaft will BOLT in place of the rear shaft.
I just did the dirt bound hack and tap with a front driveshaft in my rig this week.

(j/k) nothing was met to insult anyone, just that to many people try to do things they know they shouldn't do. A drive shaft done wrong could result in a breakage at 60 mph an kill them or someone else or just cause injury. ( don't wish it on anyone) but it does happen. So again no insult meant but common sense is needed and from what I've seen in the generation currently it is lacking big time.
