Did you order a full SYE kit or a hack and tap? I don't mean to threadjack but while there is a thread going, does anybody know if a front driveshaft can be used from an automatic when installing a hack and tap in an XJ with an AX15 manual transmission. I've heard too many different answers and am looking for someone that has actually done it.

AX15 has a longer shaft......so i guess the answer would depend on WHAT size lift you have.

I currently have a 2 inch lift, but it will be turned into a 5 inch lift after I order the RC 3" coil and AAL kit to add with my RC coil spacers and shackles. I'm also gonna do 4 degree shims and a TC drop to try and level everything out before I do the SYE. So would a front driveshaft from a manual transmission XJ be better? Or does it need to be custom made?

i ordered a PORC 231 sye kit. right now i have 5.5" with a TC drop, 3* wedges and 2" rear shackles and i went from a slight vibe to destruction of u-joints on my rear driveshaft turning my slight vibe into a >40 mpg martini mixer on wheels. i picked up some lifetime U-joints to install on the DS i picked up at the junk yard for $13. i want to eliminate the TC drop so that i can install the ZJ 242 TC skid plate that i found for $8.

I'm looking to do the same exact thing. I just don't know if it'll work for sure either. I'm at 4.5" in the rear. I have an auto front xj drive shaft that is like new. I just hate to order the yoke and have it not work. It seems like it may work if you just don't cut so much off the output shaft and the yoke. I wish I had one for mock up before I buy it...

I guess I should have clarified a little better. I have plenty of auto xj front shafts at my disposal. My xj has an ax-15 5-speed. I too was wanting to use an auto front drive shaft and buy the hack 'n tap yoke. The question is, on a stick xj, is the auto front drive shaft long enough, because stick xj's have longer rear drive shafts. I think they are about 1.5" longer? Correct me if I'm wrong.

i want to say that it is the same as an auto. i was under the impression that the only difference is the 2WD cherokees because there is no 4WD transfer case.

i think the main concern there would be will it compress enough......

Have you tried taking the rear shaft out and putting it in 4wd HI and driving it? See if you still have the vibe?

The 5-speed rear shaft is definately longer than an auto, and the front is definately shorter. It isn't by a ton, but the difference is there.
