I'm confused as all hell.
So i'm cheap cause i'm broke and plan on doing a HnT SYE
I've read the front driveshaft works as a rear replacement, but to what extent?
It's a 96 NP231 and I have a 8.25 rearend. Right now it's got a 3 inch, but I plan at being at 5.5 in the future.
What stops me from getting a Yoke and just running a bolt threw it into the output shaft? (bored and threaded)
All I need is a new housing for the shortened output shaft.
What is the MAX lift I should go with out any concern with the driveline?
I've read a lot, but im still cloudy and just need some straight answers.

I did 6.5 lift with out any drive line issues and wheeled it hard.
Everyone told me rear shaft would fall out but it never did.I guess I'm one of the lucky guys.
My buddy got a sye and he's been running with a front shaft on the rear for almost a year now with no issues on a 5" lift.
I just ordered a sye today for myself $220 total with shipping.
Boring out the existing shaft I don't know anything about or heard of but I'm guessing after all that the cost would be about the same as a sye with the labor and supplies.
I think at 6" your need a sye but not sure. I'm sure somebody will chime in and correct me.

i wass at 7.5 lift with tc drop kit had no problem with stock rear shaft the good thing about the hack and tap you have a yoke on the rear of tc so if you break the rear shaft you can still drive and no fluid will come out the back of tc
