Sye? Do i need it?

So ive had my xj lifted 4.5" for almost half the year now, and i was wondering, if i get 1.5" lift shackles, will i have to get a longer drive shaft and SYE? I've heard that any lift over 5" require them, but ive also heard the same for lifts over 6" and also heard you dont need them at all... Whats your opinion based on experience?

If you are running a 4.5" lift on a 98, you are probably running an NP231 & Dana re-end with a TC drop and shims already in place. Is this correct??...If so, you are maxing out imo. If I was going to add shackles to that, I would plan on ditching the TC drop and moving up to a proper SYE setup.

i would do it, they're not very expensive and can be done in your garage with somewhat basic tools and knowledge.
what t-case do you have? as there are generally two different styles of slip yoke eliminators out there. a full on kit for the 231 and a simple hack n tap for the 242.
once you get on in, you will know just how nice they actually are to have.

i would suggest it! ever since my driveline flung out at 70 mph on the freeway... i dont think you should mess around with pushing the limits. look on rubicon express web site, and look up the part# re1807 it is the simple hack and tap kit which i installed in just over an hour with simple tools and a drill. i belive its suggested with any lift over 3.5 in, but i think for 3.5 you should just to be on the safe side... i was going through a u-joint everycouple months... and also at those angles if you have any axle wrap you will eat u-joints so fast its not even funny...

Thanks guys, sounds like the best idea is to get one. And im not sure what TC i have but yes, i dropped it and i also dropped the pitman for the steering.
