Question My smokin dipstick

Alright i have looked and cant seem to find an answer so if this si already anwered i apologize. but my jeep has smoke coming from the dipstick when i take is out and the engine is running. not a whole lot but enough to notice and go "what the duece where is that coming from?" and no where else. i now the oil pan and rear main seal need to be replaced but i dont think that this would be the issue. any one know anything about this? anyone have this happen to them.

Take off the oil fill cap and see if you get the same thing. Sounds like blow by to me, a possible cause is bad rings.

that extra blow by could also be causing your leaks too

ya i am pretty sure my head gasket, as of now, has a small leak. so i guess doing the rings at the same time would be best. what exactly is blow by though i am not familiar with that term?

What is Blow-by?
Blow-by occurs when the explosion that occurs in your engine's combustion chamber causes fuel, air and moisture to be forced past the rings into the crankcase. Your engine's rings must maintain an excellent fit in order to contain the pressure.
The causes of blow-by: wear, soot and deposits

The effects of blow-by: loss of horsepower and oil contamination and dilution
Blow-by inhibits performance because it results in a loss of compression. When the expanding gases slip past the rings they cannot as effectively push the piston down and make the vehicle go. As a result the car will have less horsepower. This also results in a loss of fuel economy.

If you havent, check your air filter... If you have excessive blowby, the oil filter will most likely be covered in oil. This is a common problem.

I would also check the hoses for the CCV, make sure they are clean and free flowing. Even with super bad blowby, it shouldnt be coming out the dipstick tube, thats what the CCV hoses are for..
