Default Switching to open cooling

So I wanna switch to an open cooling system but I don't have a heater core. It's bypassed and I don't have a pressure bottle or the hoses. I also don't wanna replace my radiator. Thanks

Is there a question in there?

Its really easy, get a splice in rad cap fitting made by Moroso from Napa.

U absolutely need a reservoir bottle.....it must fill from the bottom and the bottle must have a vented cap (no pressure).

If u convert to an open system, u must have a reservoir bottle that is non-pressurized (vented top) and fills from the bottom.

I kept my closed cooling system and switched out the pressure bottle for a 1st gen dodge intrepid pressure bottle. The conversion was easy and the system has worked great!

Yeah, that's the little thing I forgot to mention. But it IS indeed that easy.

Just make sure you put the splice in radiator cap at the highest possible point in the cooling system, and get creative with your pressure bottle.

Don't confuse the OP, the "open" system no longer uses a "pressure" bottle.

O...k......

You get creative with the pressure bottle turning it into the reservoir.....

Better?

It's not confusing. I've just seen all of the ways people have done them on here and I like them, but I don't have a heater core to run hoses off of. Wouldn't putting a splice in my system give me three caps? 1 on my Rad, 1 on the splice, and 1 on the reservoir? What hose would go to the reservior? How many hoses would my reservior have coming off of it? I don't have all the parts that a stock engine bay has. I bought this Jeep and it was missing the heating system and the pressure bottle and the little hoses that run off of it.

If you have a radiator cap on your radiator it should already be an open system...

If not, then the only cap should be the splice in one. There is an over flow hose that comes from the neck of the splice. That hose goes to the bottom of the res, and at the top of the res you will have a hose venting to the ground for overflow.

Can you post a pic of your setup?

This is how my heater core hoses look coming off of the block.

You're still confused.....nothing to do with the heater core, the "new" rad cap installs in the top radiator hose, not in a heater hose. The open system utilizes a rad cap that has a 2 way valve and 3 sealing surfaces. There is a tube at the base of the rad cap neck that is connected to the bottom of the reservoir bottle. As the motor heats up, pressure/coolant is released by the rad cap to flow to the bottle. As the motor cools, coolant is drawn from the bottle back into the cooling system. The bottle must always have some coolant in it or else air will be drawn into the system. Again, the bottle must be vented (not allowed to pressurize) unlike the "closed system" pressurized bottle.
