Default swapping 242 tcase for 231

ok i have a quick question i have a 242 tcase in my 92 laredo and i can get a 231 tcase for 100 bucks all i wanna know is if its a direct bolt on or do i have to modify something or change the drive shaft thanx again fellas in advance

Why would you want to swap? Isn't the 242 more desireable because you can use all-time AWD?

What tranny do you have?
What year is the donor rig and what transmission was the 231 bolted too?

Jeep used 2 different spline counts on the input, 21 and 23 and both came in 3 different lengths so you have a 1 in 6 shot.
