New member, viewer for about 6 months...

I recently put 2 in coil spacers on my XJ, for a total of around 6 inches. Now the front tires are tilted in, /---\ , I still have factory trac bar and tie rod bar. Is my problem the trac bar?

 

The graphic is I think showing the top of the tires tilted inboard if that is true you have a caster problem. If the graphic is showing the back of the tires pointing out you have a toe in problem.

Caster is when your feels follow the center point of where the axle pivots ( Like a grocery cart front wheels) Your illustration has nothing to do with caster. It's your camber angle if looking from the top, or toe out if the illustration is looking from the front..

 

You're thinking of camber. If the toe is way out of wack it will make it look like the camber is all funky. Coil spacers will not effect the camber on a Cherokee, only the toe and caster.

 

So what am i looking at to fix this. Adjustable trac bar, tie rod...?

 

At 6 inches of lift you should have a Adj trackbar anyway. Once you have that take it to a shop and have a alignment done.

 

I did find out that a adjustable trac bar aligns the front axle but didn't say anything other.

The Trac-Bar locates the body in relation to the axle. When lifted the axle shifts off center. This is definitely noticeable with lifts over 2 inches. If your vehicle is already lifted view it from the front and see if the tires are centered underneath the body. Other manufactures offer a bracket to lower the stock bar at the frame mounting point and some offer a bracket that bolts to the axle. You may get too much or not enough body shift using these type of brackets. Stress created by the extra leverage of the longer bracket can also lead to stress cracks in the frame rail. The axle mount brackets never stay tight, and actually lowers the axle mounting point, putting the track bar in a worse angle.

 

Thats kinda what i had in mind or maybe try to do the alignment myself, but not sure what is going to fix this problem.

 

Shops use special tools to do it. You have a lot of lift, so do the trac bar and send it out. Tires are expensive. Alignments arent. I dont know where your at in DE but if you are in New Castle Co check out Els.

 

i think if we saw a couple pics of this jeep we could probly give you advice about other things too,

 

A trac bar only centers the axle under the Jeep.It don't make your tires lean.If your tac bar is too short then your axle will stick out on the driver side and the ps will be tucked in.
