Default Suspension noises

Hi All

OK we have been for a longish drive today in the Jeep and have noticed a knocking sound from the rear suspension when we go over a 'quick' bump by that I mean like a pothole or drain etc where the wheel goes up and down sharply.

It also was noticeable when switching direction like when going from right to left exiting a roundabout.
I have checked all the UJ's and none have any play in them, the shocks have no play in the bushes or leaks.

We also get on deep bumps a slight knock from the front so will need a check list for this area as well if possible.

What should I look for at the weekend?

I was thinking the bushes on the control arms is this a good place to start?

Please advise.

Note under normal smooth road conditions these knocks do not appear.

Check the rear u-bolts for tightness and axle bearings, bushings. For the front ,check all the bushings[sway bar,end links, shocks]shock bolts, tie rods, damper, gear box,hub units.I'm sure I'm forgetting something someone else can help fill in the blanks.

OK I have check all the bushes and bolts etc all seem fine which I expected considering the 48K miles.

The leaf springs do look a little flat though!

Went to my sisters today which is around 140 mile round trip and the noise happens when you go round a bend or change direction and sounds like a oink, oink sound like the petrol tank is moving!
When going in a straight line the suspension moves with no noise!

It is really annoying and would like some ideas what it could be?

check the ball joints in the front too. that noise will travel very easily thru the uni body making it hard to locate sometimes

does the noise only happen when turning one direction and not the other? if so i might have the same problem. it just sounds like something is banging or scraping.

I had some noise that happend only on bumps and it turned out to be my break lines were hitting the sway bar because the springs holding them in place were in the wrong place.

I think I have found it, whilst change the leaking LH brake cylinder I noticed the anti roll bar has a rub mark on it from the leaf spring. I think my leafs are shot as they are very flat looking!

Can someone give me a pic of what standard leafs springs should look like?

Everyone says that the rear sway bar can be removed without problems.

I'm with you on that one.
No one's mentioned the shock bar pins? They're awfully loud when they pop. I'm betting it's those.
