Suggestions on putting an NP231 in, and rusted floor board fixes...
I bought a used NP231 on ebay to replace the problematic NP242 (95 Sport, auto). I'll get it early next week.
Having never had a 4wd in the past, it'll probably stay in 2wd almost all the time, except for really bad snows when I have to get to work...so the lack of 4wd full time shouldn't matter too much...
From what I've read, it looks like a direct swap. Do I have to risk problems (broken bolts) with the trans support, or can I swap out the T-case without dropping the trans support?
Rust holes in the passenger (worse) and driver's side...I have a replacement floor pan for the passenger side (steel), and will get one for the driver's side.
I can pop rivet them in...and possibly get my brother to come and weld them (or tack weld myself). So the fix isn't the issue...what is..how to kill any residual rust, prevent further problems, etc....and what to do to put a new flooring in the XJ..
Should I:
Buy new carpet (old carpet is pretty dirty...maybe removing it and scrubbing thoroughly would work to get it better...but I think a replacement would work better)?
Bed Liner for the interior (and possibly put a new carpet over it???)..but what bed liner is easiest for a newbie to use?
Any other thoughts?
Thanks!!

there are plenty of write ups on the t-case swap.... the only issue i've come across when swapping between the 231 and the 242 is when going from 231 to the 242 the 4wd shift lever needs a little adjusting so probably the same goes for reverse situation... also another thing to be sure of is that your the t-case you're buying/bought is from the same year span as your vehicle (91's i think and older are small shaft/spline count and 92's and newer are big shaft/spline count) but from what i've been told by other people and people can bite at the pro's and con's of each all day long but part-time 4wd is actually better for winter than full-time....

Thanks...
It is the 23 Spline (I verified)...and even the next year (1996), they changed the output shaft design (to an external)...so it is the correct one for me (internal).
Any thoughts on the floor anyone? I don't want to do some kind of a fix that makes it more difficult to make a permanent repair later...
