What's up guys,
Sounding as if my starter in on the outs. She's original and served me well over the last 19 years! Can't complain... Curious what you'd suggest for replacement. Should I just go AC Delco?
Thanks,
Raz

I went with new, not remaned, from Napa. Thinking 5 years ago maybe.
Wasn't cheap but does come with a lifetime warranty.
First I work there so....
But also just easier to deal with if and when it craps out.

I have a TYC new for a few years now. They test each unit individually and the results are in the box.

Doing most work myself, and then doing it over when a reman part fails too soon has led me to think this way, too. Even if the reman has a decent warranty and gets replaced for free, you're still stuck for your time and effort. Usually the new, if you shop, isn't that much more, and worth it for the reliability...IMO.
I bought an unused AC Delco from an ex Jeep mechanic owner selling his XJ
he informed me the "cheap" SMs online "were crap built in China"...when the AC Delco arrived, it said "made in China" on the box lol

My 2001 XJ is finally spitting out the original starter at 470,000 miles. I'm guessing by now everything is coming from offshore, so I'm wondering if it's even worth it to spend $200 instead of $75, no matter what label is on it.

Look around locally and see if you still have a starter/alternator shop or something similar nearby. They can tear the unit down and rebuild it for a fraction of the cost sometimes better than it was when new. The places are nearly impossible to find anymore but might be worth a google search. I had a alternator for a truck rebuilt at one and they rewound it, new bearings all that. Put out more power and was cheaper than a remaned unit from the big box stores.
