Default suddenly...won't start or turn over

Just last month, I had the entire front end rebuilt on 1996 Cherokee Automatic 4.0L to eliminate the death wobble.....so far so good, but after trying all the cheap, easy to replace stuff I finally had to go all the way to lower control arm bushings to finally cure it. Time for a new problem!

Only 81,000 miles and always ran fine, oil changed every 2500 miles.....go to grocery store and when I come out it won't start or turnover. Buzzer sounds weak so I assume bad battery (4 years old) and replace. No help same...weak door buzzer, nothing happens when I turn key. Tried key in park and neutral. Any recommendations?

How is the positive cable near the battery? Is it swollen and have corrosion anywhere on on it?

Clean BOTH cables.
Typically its the ground that causes issues.
Power flows from negative to positive in a DC system.

Both cables look good with clean connectors, but I will start there and check more thoroughly all cables & connectors. Thanks for the reponses.

Check the voltage in your battery too. Maybe you got an alternator out and the battery is just dead.

Well......checked all the wires & connectors, continuity....then decided to tap on the starter a couple times with hammer and it started right up. Guess I will replace it this weekend......or just stash a hammer behind the seat for next time.

As long as you keep the hammer handy, the starter will never fail again. Leave the hammer at home and you'll be stuck 150 miles from nowhere.
