Default Stuck in part time

So I just got done putting a new transfer case in my 96 but now it’s stuck in part time 4. I’ve seen people say drive in reverse so I tried with no luck. Also I’ve seen it could be the linkage but I put it exactly where it was before, does anyone know exactly where it’s supposed to be and look like? I’ll answer questions if anyone has them to get a better solution. Thanks!

Try backing out the Indicator Light Switch. For whatever reason, it's possible to thread it in too far, binding up the "shift fork shaft".

Is it an NP242?

Have you tried going under the Jeep and manually switching it or have you just tried the shift lever inside? Linkage sounds suspect.

I can only comment directly on the 242 (but have found this to be the situation with other 4wd makes too)

Its easy to get the TX case bound in one position, and the best way I have found to get them unstuck is using flat ground, try moving ever so slightly forward and back, slip the GB into neutral, THEN move the TX shifter.

It may take quite a few attempts, my 242 is sometimes like this, especially with Part Time 4wd

One should be moving as slow as possible, GB in Neutral. This relieves as much possible stress to prevent the mechanical parts binding

If that doesnt fix it, your linkage is probably worn or slightly out
