Default STUCK in Full Time 4WD

Hello,
Just subscribed to ask a question, and for help..

My mother's 98 Cherokee Limited has a Selec-Trac system. (it's a slushbox too) I shifted from 2WD to Part-time (yellow light came on), to Full-Time 4WD (Green light came on).

The transfer case works normally in that I can shift from Full-Time 4WD to N and to 4LO and back, but the rest from Full-Time 4WD and on up to 2WD seems useless, and the green light on the dash stays on. I know it's stuck because it bucks and rocks like no other while turning sharply at low speed.

I've tried the back-up method, I've tried to go to N on the transfer case and back out and shift while going forward and backward, under power and while coasting, NOTHING Doing.

I've taken the truck to a reputable tranny shop to be checked out, and wanted some help from you guys 'in the know' so I don't get taken to the cleaners, so to speak...

They'll be calling later today to give me the diagnosis.....any help or comments soon would be appreciated, I imagine it's just a linkage issue.

On my NP242 I have to put the Jeep transmission in neutral and then back to park to get out of full time.

Also do not post a second post to point back to your original post.

Thanks, but I've tried all of this and nothing worked. Any idea what it could be mechanically speaking?

Try driving it around in full time for a few miles. It may loosen things up. Thats what I had to do with mine since it was rarely used.

Try rolling at 30-40 mph it might work. I know mine kicks out really easy if im rolling that fast.

I accelerate and suddenly remove my foot from the gas so I'm in a decelleration phase. All while putting it out of fulltime 4WD at the lever.

I'll do this a couple of times. I'll shift it to which ever setting I'm going to, then let off the gas, then tap the gas a couple of times...basically going from idle speed to giving it gas two or three times and it usually jumps right in or out of 4WD.

I do this for everything except 4LO

Atleast you're stuck in Full Time, which can be driven on the street with out damage.
