Just bought a nice 99 red xj sport. only problem that just started showing up is the shifting. I'll turn it on, take off, and it shifts real smooth at the right rpmsvand everything. As soon as I slow down to turn or stop something hoes wrong. when I take off, it has absolutely no power. it doesn't have power until around 35 which is why I feel like it's in 3rd. It stays in this gear whether I go 20 or 60. if I shut it down then restart it's five again. I'm not a tranny guy. please help! Thanks

 

could it be the downshift cable or transmission range sensor? Needs answers.

it is most likley the trnnsmission computer, located under ur center counsle.

I'm having the exact same issue with my Red 98 XJ... What did it end up being?

 

Both my range sensor and downshift cable needed replacing. Not sure which one or both were causing the problem but it's fixed now. I also changed the O2 sensor but that didnt have to do with this problem.
