I have gotten an oppertunity to build a stroker motor, and put it in my cherokee. i have a few questions though. which is better to go with a 4.7 or 4.6 stroker conversion? how difficult is it to build a stroker motor? what components do i need to do this? and about how expensive will this be?

Its a very simple deal for a great HP and Torque gain.
Two methods.
Budget method: uses a 258 crank, 258 rods, and pistons with the stock 4.0L piston pin height. Which is a short rod stroker.
More expesive: The "long-rod" method uses the 258 crank, the longer 4.0L rods and a shorter piston pin height.
from what I remember the power gains between the two are not much different. I would do the cheaper method myself. If you can find all the parts It should run you no more then around 700 bucks. I know some people can get parts cheaper and some will say it costs more but thats a
general price. This is if you do your own work and you dont have to do any work to your head. The more expensive one would cost around 1000 or so. the one thing you need to remember is the snout on the end of the 258 crankshaft is longer so it needs machined down. A good camshaft is also a good idea. Crane makes a good one.

When and if my 4.0 ever dies, I'm planning on doing a 4.7 stroker rebuild to my HO motor. Google, (Another Freakin' Jeep Cherokee Website). He has an awesome write-up on his website about a stroker motor build he did.
