Default Stripped Front DS Bolt

Hey guys, I was under my jeep the other day trying to remove my front DS to replace the u-joint, and I stripped on of the 8mm bolts near the TC. Any ideas on how to get my front DS out?

Take a hammer and smack a smaller socket on there.I've done that too many times,it works.

The bolts I'm talking about are joining the DS to the TC. There's no room for a socket or a hammer for that matter....

try a 5/16 socket? thats what i use for those bolts. maybe the standard socket will fit tighter? Might want to try some heat so that the bolt will come out easier?

If worse comes to it...heat them up and put the vice grips to it. But thats a LAST resort

Default stripped bolt

I am facing the same situation and here's what I plan to do.
I will be using a low profile bolt extractor. I looked up the price for a
7mm and 8mm and the price for both including shipping was almost thirty dollars.
I searched some more and found a 14 piece set from craftsman for 49.99
on the sears website. There was even a 5 dollar discount. With shipping
the total was around 51 bucks.

These extractors should work because they are low profile and will fit in that cramped area. A punch is included so that you can seat the socket on the bolt. Since there is no room for a ratchet, the socket can be turned by an open ended wrench.
Good luck and I'll let you know how it goes.

Break a extractor off in there and you will be replacing the yoke. Cut/grind the heads off use a dremmell if you have too then take driveshaft off and use vice grips on remaining bolt.
