Default Strange Wiper, Blinker, and Radio Issue

Happy new year ladies and gents!!

So I have an interesting issue that I would like to troubleshoot and solve myself.

About two months ago the face of my new aftermarket radio goes blank (no illumination), but the cd is still playing. I turn off/on the truck, and no more issues. A month later while in the line up at a funeral, my hazards all of a sudden stop flashing, and just stay solid (same problem with directionals). The flasher problem happens every so often (longer drives mostly).

I think this may all be related, because a week ago we had a lot of snow, I turned on my wipers (snow on the windshield) while my radio was on, and the radio face went off and then on, and the wipers parked and no longer worked (as well as the sprayer). When I would then turn the key in the ignition, I would hear what sounds like the circuit breaker for the wipers clicking. I thought I fried the wiper motor.

I haven't driven my truck in a week, and last night the wipers magically worked.

I'm not really sure were to start and what kind of electrical tool(s) I may need to test certain things. Any help/comments/insight would be greatly appreciated.

Any place I should look for shorts/connection issues? Should I test the wiper relay?

I'll definitely let you know what I find. Right now I am looking over the wiring diagram for the audio system, turn signals/hazards, and wipers. Hopefully I'll find something inter-related that I can test.

I was hoping someone had this same problem before and had a solution, only time will tell.

Maybe there is something in the steering column, like the ignition switch that is to blame.

Is the radio pulling too much power then what the original allowed?

Disconnect the radio and see what happens? If it still acts up I would say poltergeist.

did you check your ignition switch located above the steering column?

Not yet, but it's on my list. What should I be looking for? Corrosion, loose wires, etc etc??

I had the same problem after driving for over 8 hours in the winter. I lost my blinkers, wipers, radio and heater fan! Luckily I was only 5 minutes from my destination. I left it over night and started checking fuses in the morning. To my surprise none were blown. Every thing was fine all day. The next day I had a hard time turning the ignition. I sprayed some lube in there and that seemed to help. Not sure if it's related but thought I would throw that out there. Any suggestions on how to t-shoot the electrical problem?

Thanks for the info. Right now my truck is working fine, and I did nothing to it!! This definitely worries me because I know it will happen again. If I ever figure out the problem I'll post it here. I don't want to get to the point were I just start replacing things that could be causing the issue, I'd rather just fix the problemo. We'll see

I changed out my ignition on the weekend. I noticed that one of the electrical connections to the ignition was burn looking. I couldn't determine what that particular wire was for. (the hayes manual #1 doesn't show all connections to the ignition and #2 usually has the wrong colours on the wires for my 94 XJ). Here's to keeping my fingers crossed and hoping it doesn't happen again.

I have had this happen to my 2000 Sport also in the past few months, twice. With the same results, did nothing and it went away after turning it off and back on again.

Some have suggested it is the dash gauge connection? Some say take it out and clean/insure the connectors are making good contact. I have done this and so far it has not returned. Not sure on the exact cause and corrective actions to take yet.

I have look into the FSM and wiring to see what common point between everything that either doesn't work or what now lights up when it happens. Again nothing to obvious was seen.

my fisrt truck did this same crap to me. cept sometimes when i would turn on my wipers the truck would die. mind you it was an isuzu so its goofy to start. but i sent nearly 3 weeks lookin for the problem and it turned out to be one very small loose ground under the hood. my suggestin is start checking all your ground connections. makes sure they are clean and tight

I had the same problem with mine the blower, airbag light, turn signals, and the rear wiper wouldn't work so one day I left the truck running and turned on the blinker (this is when they weren't working) lifted the hood and started messing with the main wiring harness that goes into the fuse box on the passenger side and all of a sudden the blinkers worked. So I just got a zip tie and used that to hold the wiring harness in a position that would keep everthing working for now it has been too cold for me to get out there and pull the fuse box apart. But my guess is a bad connection on one of those wires or a bad ground for the fuse box.

I might mess with it this weekend if I do and see the problem I will post it.
