Hey guys, lurked a lot here, and learned a lot (over the Christmas break stripped my interior, removed rust, made some floor panel patches and truckbed lined the inside - all because of this site!), but I've got a problem I haven't seen a solution for yet.
I have an '88 Cherokee with power windows. For some reason, they're only 7/8ths functional. What I mean by that is, the front passenger won't go up. It'll go down (it's all the way down now, but you can hear the motor engage if you push the down button). No noise if you try to raise it. Does this for both the driver side and passenger side switches, won't go up. (All the other windows function good, though some are a little slow)
So I've got a twofold question: Any insight as to why it's doing this? (After skimming some other threads, I suspect it may be my wiring harness has corroded somewhere and/or a wire has broken.)
Secondly, if it's something that'll take me a while to save up for a repair part or get the time to fix it, does anyone know how to get the window up manually? I've got the door panel off but can't lift it, is there anyway to put the window motor in "neutral" so I can get it up in the meantime lol?
Oh, and if anyone knows if it's possible to switch from power to manual windows, that'd be great.

Check the switch on the drivers side first. Use a volt meter, while working the buttons. The switches are known to fail. Also the wiring running through the rubber boot between body and door, is known to ware, or break out there. JMO!

That was great info on the worm gear fix. Thanks.
My passenger front was fast going up but dead slow going down. All it needed was a good lube job after 22 years of neglect.
