Strange noise after heater and evap core replacement

Took the heap for a test drive after everything was put back together, minus the a/c lines. These will be hooked up by the dealer tomorrow when it's recharged.
While on the test drive, I was getting a weird steady fast tapping coming from the engine area. It would only do it when the heap was moving. It would stop if i turned left. I thought it was a fan shroud, but its not. Sounds like it's right at the fire wall, but its hard to tell since its only doing it when moving. Fingers crossed it goes away once the lines are hooked back up.

Shop said it was the wheel bearing, so I replaced it and its still doing it. I just don't understand. It only makes the noise when moving and if I turn the wheel to the left while moving, the noise goes away. It's definitely something that's moving because it sounds like metal on metal. Almost like brake pads when they are absolutely shot. The sound is dead center in the XJ and behind the dash.

Something went wrong when you pulled and replaced the dash.
When troubleshooting, if a new problem crops up that wasn't there before you changed something, you go back to what you last worked on.

It's definitely something in the drive train. If I drive it and throw it into neutral and also hold the transfer lever it the right spot, it stops. Maybe when I pulled the center console out I jarred something loose.

Turns out the noise was from my transfer case. It pretty much fell apart from the inside out. New case installed and we are working again!
