so yah! I have a 2000 XJ all stock (so far!) and the other day I took it out of 4 wheel and now when in 2 wheel it seems to make a strange buzzing or whizzzing sound when the BACK wheels are spinning in mud! only then not in 4 wheel feels like the sound coming from transfer case as I am in it?? not really metal grinding sound but not really normal sound aat all either. any help???? thanx pink lady

 

interesting could it be your transfer case isn't completely shifting into 2wd from 4wd?

 

maybe you smacked it off a rock or somethin and joumbled things around thats why you gotta lift it


i lift mine cauz fat chicks cant jump

 

Could be the shift forks aren't fully engaged or chain stretched out in your t case.

Shift it back into 4wd drive move forward and back a few times then shift it into 2wd. Sounds like it did not engage completely into 2wd or it's out of adjustment

i am a chevy guy first experience with jeep like it tho i have not looked yet but what kind of adjustment may it be? linkage? surly it not a cable system and yeah! that wut I was thinkin......adjustment!!
