So my cherokee has 7" wide wheels, and I have gotten mixed reviews for 31" tires to fit on them. Guy over at Big O told me that I could get up to about 33 no problem, and discount told me that 31 would definitely be pushing it. What kind of experience do you guys have? Or should I just get new wheels that are 8" wide?

Thanks,

10.5 inch wide tire will fit just fine, 12.5 is pushing it. TIre height has nothing to do with it fitting on the rim. If you had a 37x10.5 it would fit on a stock rim..

I have 31/10.5's on my stock rims, i don't know how wide my rims are though. Only issue i have is i can't turn very sharp anymore, as the insides of the tires will rub on the control arms. Easy fix, with wheel spacers or get different rims.

Not a very good picture, since it is actually from an oil filter change but you can kinda see how much space i have. I can get a better picutre if you want, just my Jeep is in the shop right now getting it's tranny checked out.

I wouldn't go bigger than 10.5s which sucks cause it just adds to the costs for when I want to lift mine higher in the future!

I've known people to wheel their Jeeps hard on 7" wide wheels with 33/12.5/15 meats. I have yet to see any ill effects. That's not to say I agree with it...at all...but I have no personal experience to say it won't work. Personally, I wouldn't touch anything over a 10.5" wide tire on a 7" wheel.

Also, 12.5 inch wheels will not fit on stock backspacing..They will rub your leaf springs. Only STOCK jeep wheels that will fit 12.5s and not rub leafs are canyons

Thank you very much. This has been extremely helpful. Now i just have to get my jeep up to parents and actually install the lift, measure for driveshaft, then make it down to buy tires. I will hopefully take a bunch of pictures!
