Default Stock Radio/How to Fix?

I just bought a 99 Cherokee XJ. The biggest problem, the radio doesn't work. Everything else is great. The fuse for the radio is not broke, it has power, but absolutely no sound, static, nothing! Tried the cassette and nothing as well. Pulled it out and all the wiring still "Looks" fine. Whats the best process I need to go through for testing what the problem is and how? Any help would be great! Thanks!!!

Buy a replacement at the Junk yard. XJ Jeeps are in abundance at my local pullapart locations.

Check Amazon for deals, less expensive than a JY, and hasn't been thrown in to a tree @ 90 mph. LOL

Buy a new radio and the plug and play adapter... Walmart or Target Sony Explods cant be beat for the money.

I myself prefer the stock radio for nostalgic reasons, and it has a tape player

I seen one sell for $78 on ebay the other day so they're not cheap by a stretch...

spray all connections with contact cleaner, die electric grease and go from there

A way to test if they work will be get a wiring diagram for the stereo. Look up the 4 speakers, each will have a positive and a negative wire. Strip a little insulation off each one and touch the terminals of a 9 volt battery to each speakers positive and negative wire. If the wiring and speaker are good you will hear a little "pop" sound from them when you touch the battery to them. It'll take a few minutes but save you the hassle of buying a new radio and finding out the wiring or the speakers are trashed anyway.

$22.57 for a stock radio w/cd or $14.57 for Radio/Cassette at my local www.pullapart.com

There are two locations in North Carolina. Winston-Salem and Charlotte. The one in Charlotte has 5 Cherokees 97 and newer if you happen to be near that area.

Totally agree. I tried a modern Sony deck in my Tundra for a month, hated the tiny buttons. Moved it to my popup, works great.

You can turn a cassette into an MP3 player with one of these:

Amazon.com: Car Music MP3 Player Tape Cassette Adapter for SD/MMC Reader: Car Electronics Amazon.com: Car Music MP3 Player Tape Cassette Adapter for SD/MMC Reader: Car Electronics

About $15 on ebay.
