Let me just add my 2 cents here - First, install the new harness relay/battery connections through the passenger side headlight hole (after removing that light obviously) - snake it around the battery area. That way you don't have to remove the battery/tray, and the only thing you will need to remove is the front grill cover to snake it over, which takes 1 minute.
Also - DO NOT tug on the wires too much, the wires going into the relay sockets are really not in there very good on the putco harness, so I accidently pulled 2 of them a bit out of the connector, but they seem to have a good amount of bite on them still. Short of stripping the wires and soldering them together up higher, not really sure what else I can even do after I ziptied them together for better strain-relief and I've checked on them every once in awhile over the past few months and they seem to be fine, but it definitely creeps me out.
That being said, even with the stock bulbs still the harness has made a very big difference in light output.
Also grab an extra relay or two to keep in the Jeep just in case and really clean the ground points well when you install them (big reason the relays go in the first place)

Wonder all you like. Lots of folks are using that harness with no issues.

My son is going to get one of these Putco harneses. Anyone have a # for "quality" relays, or what to ask for? Would they have them at Autozone, or should he go to NAPA or such?

The supplied relays have been fine on the 5 or so Putco harnesses I've installed. Make sure the grounds are scraped to bare metal and the relays are mounted properly.

O, okay. Thought I saw on here and others through a search that they were iffy. Might have been instalation/poor ground.
Thank you very much.
Son mentioned just other morning his lights sucked, and I had seen the recent posts about them and putco, and had instant answer for him

Not disagreeing with Cruiser (that's impossible), and yes - make sure to scrape to bare metal, but I'm a just-in-case kinda guy.
Here:
Also I wasn't really comfortable installing it like he has in that picture and the way I've seen it in other pictures, mainly for the reason of not being able to quickly swap it out if I needed to.
I have them ziptied to the "base" of the relay cover thing, like where the plastic thumb-screw thing is.

Would the GE maximum brightness headlights be good with the putco harness? I'll post a link https://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,c...,parttype,2796

He's right, even stock headlights are much brighter with a harness upgrade. Getting some Sylvania Xtra Visions for $15 a piece would be a nice upgrade too, and you can find them anywhere.
At least to me, there's no reason to get crazy H4 housings, but even the rampages are only $80-90 a set.
I'd recommend getting the harness and then getting some Xtra Visions. I plan on getting them, but have so far been impressed with the difference the harness has made even with the stock bulbs.

Well I should have clarified...
What makes the H4 rampages and the like so good is the reflective/high tech or whatever housings they use, as well as the bulbs.
The Xtra visions will come with the housing as well, just not as crazy awesome as the Rampages, etc (more like stock)....
Example:
They're still certainly a bit of an upgrade over stock, but as stated above DO THE HARNESS FIRST.

That's just me, yes. I mean I think most people would agree if you were trying to save money either:
A) just run stock lights with the upgraded harness (they're noticeably better)
B) spend ~$30 and get a set of Xtravisions with the upgraded harness
Vs:
C) going all out and get Rampages with the upgraded harness
