Default stock jeep stereo wiring color combos

trying to install a new cd player in my jeep. i cut out the original wiring harness to hard wire it in because i had too much excess wire. well i grabbed another stock harness from a junk yard. one of the wires is pink. and i dont have any pink wires..... it is an 88 Cherokee pioneer if that matters

get a test light. find constant power first, then find switched power. get a AA battery, use the battery to find speaker wires. they should be somewhat color matched (green wire with green wire with red stripe) if you connect the battery to speaker leads you'll hear the speaker crackle. once you've isolated the power wires and speaker wires the only wires left will be ground and illumination (possibly a remote wire if you have a power antenna or a factory amp) do your self a favor while your in there and run RCA cables and a remote wire, even if you don't plan on running an amp. if you change your mind later you'll be glad you did.

i have a 92 cherokee...haha the speakers wires dont match colors at all...its actually very confusing cause it just doesnt make sense....AA battery is the best way to find out. it doesnt have to be a test light either. a multimeter will work. black is ground as usual.

You shouldn't have cut it out in the first place. You would have saved your self some headache down the road. Off the top of my head i believe the pink wire is the constant 12v power.

I did the same thing to my wifes XJ 10 years ago. I guess I've gotten smarter over the years, when I installed a new stereo in my ZJ I bought a wiring adapter so it was just plug and play. oh well live and learn.

see the thing is i have done this before. i used the plug and play and it worked but i got pissed off because the headunits stopped working so i decieded to hardwire it in... the issues im having is the new stock harness is not the same colors as the wires i have coming now. i have the pink wire on the new stock harness but not on the wires leading to where the harness should go.

and thanks for the diagram, but i cant read it even when i print it out.
