I was just wondering how you can find out what the stock gearing for my xj is. I have a 93 cherokee sport with a d30 front and a chrysler 8.25 rear. Also have the 231 transfer case. Any body how this

there should be a tag that has that info on one of the bolts that hold the cover on

Nevermind i found it out guys.

Gearing

3.07 - used with 4.0L engine / manual transmission
3.31 - only available on older (pre87?) 2 door XJs with "Fuel Economy" package
3.55 - used with 4.0L engine / automatic transmission
3.73 - found in some XJs with the towing package
4.10 - used with 2.5L engine usually, and older XJs with the "Off-Highway Vehicle" package.

So i either have the 3.55 or the 3.73 because i dont know if the jeep came with a factory hitch set-up. I guy i bought it from put on a class IV hitch on it.

probably 3.55

if you cant find the tag
you can jack it up mark the drive shaft and the tire
rotate the tire one rev and cont how may times the DS turns if its 3-1/2
you have 3.55
if its a little more you have 3.73

ok man thanks. Im going to upgrade the gears anyways i think. Dunno what set-up i want yet
